Aitken Spence Power successfully plants over 11,000 saplings

Ace Power Embilipitiya, belonging to the Power segment of Aitken Spence, successfully completed a project to plant over 11,000 saplings which was initiated in 2018 to mark the 150th anniversary of Aitken Spence PLC.

The main objective of this ongoing initiative is to contribute meaningfully to increase the green cover in Sri Lanka by planning the distribution of plants and ensuring its care till the plant can grow on its own. Trees are an important carbon sink to capture greenhouse gasses from the atmosphere. It also purifies soil and water quality while curbing noise pollution and strengthening ecosystems for our fauna and flora. Most of these saplings are also endemic plants, many with medicinal values, contributing to the preservation of our heritage. Ace Power Embilipitiya maintains a plant nursery as well.

These saplings are planted across the country in over 30 different locations not limited to the company’s power plants. Additionally, these saplings have been given homes at the residences of Aitken Spence Power employees to encourage and inspire them and fellow Spensonians.
